MOUTH OF THE PIAVE AND PINEWOOD

The pine forest of Jesolo lies on the eastern shores of Jesolo, near the confluence of the Canal Cavetta in Piave.

It is actually a band of mixed woodland, seated on old consolidated dunes, which preserves the original appearance of the pine forest and components only for short distances. The urbanization of the 70s and the natural adversities of pines have indeed changed the original continuity and the typical structure of the same age and single-species plant.

Currently, the pine forest, located at home since the 20s, looks like a forest characterized by clear and rapid evolutionary dynamics, where certain invasive species such as black locust and poplar are gradually replacing the stone pine (Pinus pinea).

The most interesting aspect of the consortium, however, is from the forest undergrowth and herbaceous. Here, in fact, particularly in sunny glades and hollows interdunal humid, it is found a contingent of considerable importance phytogeographic floristic and ecological. It consists among other species microthermal and orophilous which Erica carnea, Parnassia palustris and Globularia cordifolia, from thermophilic species such Osyris dawn eLonicera Etruscan, and from species to spread limited or localized in the territory such as ciperacea Cladium mariscus and orchids Orchis memory, Cephalanthera longifolia, Gynnadenia canospesa and Epipactis palustris.

Recent interventions of the regional forestry institutions are still attempting a restoration of the fabric forest through the planting of young specimens of Pinus pinea, Quercus ilex, Quercus pubescens, Quercus robur and Fraxinus ornus.
